The Day of Improvisation is a one-day workshop for high school students who are interested in improving as jazz improvisers. Participating students will:
- Rehearse in small groups
- Learn the in’s and out’s of improvising and apply practice methods to selected repertoire
- Eat pizza while being serenaded by UO jazz faculty and students
- Attend masterclass sessions taught by UO faculty
- Perform at an evening concert
Students must be nominated by their school band director to participate.
In Fall 2023, the UO Jazz Studies program will be hosting two DOI workshops – one at West Linn HS, and the other at Frohnmayer Music Building on the University of Oregon campus in Eugene.

Location: Frohnmayer Music Building at the University of Oregon
Price: Free! Lunch will be provided.
We will be selecting approximately 50 students to attend each workshop.
Band directors are also welcome to attend. Band directors should utilize the form embedded on this web page to nominate deserving students.
