Graduate Employee Positions (Teaching Fellowships) are awarded each year in Jazz Studies (as well as other music disciplines) to top applicants. GEs at the University of Oregon maintain a minimum teaching load of .2 FTE (8 to 10 hours a week) and must be full-time students. Most of our teaching fellowship packages include an academic-year stipend, 9-16 credits of free tuition per quarter, and 100% of a health care premium for insurance that covers medical, dental, and optical care.
All graduate applicants to the MM in Jazz Studies degree program are automatically considered for Jazz Employee positions. No further action is required to apply unless you wish to be considered for a GE outside the jazz area.
Applicants for Graduate Teaching Fellowships in Jazz Studies are not restricted to Jazz Studies majors. Likewise, graduate students in jazz are encouraged to apply in all areas in which they may be qualified to teach. To be considered for a GTF outside your primary area of study (including Athletic Bands), please complete the GE Application.
- Curriculum vitae, if not already submitted as part of your music theory graduate application.
- Cover letter in which you should tell us about your teaching experience, what topics you would like to teach, and your overall teaching philosophy.
To be considered for a Eugene Symphony GTF, you will need to submit a special audition CD with prescribed repertoire and excerpts. Please review the Graduate Audition Requirements for details.
