Graduate Employee Positions are awarded each year in Jazz Studies (as well as other music disciplines) to top applicants. Each GE in the Jazz Studies program is assigned teaching duties, but they may also be assigned some administrative duties as part of their workload.
GE’s at the University of Oregon maintain a minimum workload of .25 FTE (10 hours per week) and must be full-time students. Each GE position includes an academic-year stipend, a tuition waiver for, and a health insurance package that covers medical, dental, and optical care. Students applying for a the jazz studies program will automatically be considered for a Jazz Area GE position. However, applicants for Graduate Employee positions in Jazz Studies are not restricted to Jazz Studies majors. Students only applying to other degrees of the SOMD must complete a separate application in order to be considered for a Jazz Area GE position.
