JazzArts Oregon

JazzArts Oregon is the first of ten combos at the University of Oregon. The Herbert Merker JazzArts Oregon Combo Scholarship Endowment funds five $1,000 scholarships annually. Scholarships are available to any student, new or returning, graduate or undergraduate. Even students majoring in other subjects are eligible. As ambassadors of the UO Jazz Studies Program, JazzArts Oregon members represent the artistic efforts of our entire student body.

This group’s reputation for creative innovative programming and excellence in performance is underlined by the numerous national and international awards bestowed upon its members – collectively and individually – over recent years. This list includes 16 Downbeat Magazine Student Music Awards, and 5 recent appearances at international jazz competitions including the North America Saxophone Alliance Jazz Competition, Carmine Caruso International Jazz Solo Competition, National Trumpet Competition, International Trumpet Guild Competition, and International Trombone Association Carl Fontana Competition.
