Songs on the UO Undergraduate Jazz Repertoire List must be performed by memory including the melody and improvised choruses over the chord changes. You are strongly encouraged to learn these songs by listening to the original artists and recordings when possible. Most songs may be found on Jamey Aebersold play-alongs for practice purposes.
Undergraduates are required to memorize 12 songs each academic year through their junior year (36 songs in total). Repertoire should be selected to meet the numerical requirements for each subcategory listed on the barrier form (minor blues, major blues, rhythm changes, etc.). Songs in “bold” are required.
For their sophomore and junior barrier exams, students should select repertoire from this list. However, students may select songs not on the list with the approval of their applied instructor.
